The worst part is--salt is sneaky. You often get it when you don't even know it. I read last week that McDonald's Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken has 890mg w/out the dressing. Add the dressing and it's another 500 mg. Shoot! Our limit for the day is 1500mg. And it sure doesn't taste that salty.
I love those little Ramen Noodles. With all the kids grown and gone, there are plenty of nights where hubby and I eat a salad or Ramen or plain ole Chicken Noodle soup. Sounds healthy but no way! if you read the labels and see how much salt we just consumed. And Soy sauce! 00h la la! That is a little bottle of heart-attack waiting to happen. Of course, I love the stuff.
I always thought a pan of Spanish rice was a near perfect dinner, especially if you go entirely veggie and skip the meat. Not necessarily so, Near East Spanish Rice Pilaf contains 910 mg of sodium in a 2.5 ounce serving. That's nearly 2/3 of our daily allowance for salt.
Geez, nothing is safe anymore. Well, it's time for the ball-game. I'm playing-safe and drinking water only with my popcorn.
